Week 6 of a Self-Care Journey: Transformation One Small Step at a Time

Writer: Erica Thomas , LMFTErica Thomas , LMFT

Today, Helen suggested we try another upbeat session in the Life Vessel. This one was designed to stimulate digestion.

Normally, we focus more on relaxation because we live in a fast-paced world. The Life Vessel is a machine designed to activate relaxation in a stressed nervous system, it does this with music, vibration, lights, and heat. But too much of a good thing can have the opposite effect, slowing everything down a little too much.

Lately, I’ve been learning to tune in more deeply to what my body actually needs, rather than just assuming I know. Just spending time with these treatments is giving me a new and deeper understanding of my body and my own needs.

So when Helen said, “If you don’t like the music, just get out,” I decided to keep an open mind. The music was lively, much more energetic than I expected. I would have expected such lively music to be energizing but actually it was the opposite.

At first, I wasn’t sure what I felt about this experience, but then, something surprising happened. As I immersed myself in the rhythm, my body became more relaxed. The more I focused on the beat the less thinking I was doing. When I

was able to get out of my head I became so relaxed that I even fell asleep.

Then came the next treatment. The Zerona is a laser light treatment for weight loss, but for me this seems to be more about self-care. It’s like a weekly appointment with myself and my body, a time when I really listen.

Today something extraordinary happened. I often feel a lightness in my abdomen after the treatment, but this time it was even more. The energy didn’t just settle in one place, it flowed through my entire body. My arms and legs tingled with a vibrancy, like tiny sparks of life waking up inside me.

It was an incredible sensation, a reminder of how deeply connected everything within us truly is.

These past two treatments have felt like a turning point. My body feels noticeably better. My clothes may fit slightly looser, though that could be my imagination.

But regardless of a number on the scale, I just feel lighter. More energetic. More at peace. It’s a sensation that’s hard to put into words, like the comfort of a warm embrace from the inside out.

Transformation can feel painfully slow, like we’re stuck in place. The Ego even tells us that nothing is happening. Until, suddenly, we experience a shift—a breakthrough—and realize that change was happening all along.

The process of transformation always reminds me of the butterfly in its cocoon. From the outside, it looks like nothing is happening. But inside, something extraordinary is taking place. Then, one day it emerges completely transformed. A fat fury worm has become a flying masterpiece.

I don’t know if I’m completely transformed just yet, but I do see the shifts happening. I’m learning to honor both the big and small moments of change. To have patience with my own evolution.

What about you? Have you ever experienced a time when everything felt stagnan, only to look back and realize how much growth had actually taken place?

Take a moment today to reflect on how far you’ve come. Even when you can’t see the progress, trust that it’s unfolding in ways you may not yet understand.

I Love hearing from you, so if you have any reflections that you would like to share, please comment or email me at efthomasma@gmail.com
